When Your Catholic Friends Actually Support Planned Parenthood

Nothing is quite so shocking as to see something come up on Facebook that a friend - a fellow Catholic with seven kids and who is living in a hovel to send them to Catholic school - actually DOES NOT support defunding Planned Parenthood.

The question why came from another acquaintance, and when the friend came back with the meme that the government doesn't fund the abortions provided, but well-women exams, birth control access (the most effective method - abstinence - is free), mammograms - anyone who has followed the Planned Parenthood claims knows that is not true - and on and on.  It seems that this woman at one time found herself without insurance and was able to get well-woman services at Planned Parenthood, presumably on medicaid.

Really, medicaid reimbursements for well-women visits at the state level are what the government actually funds, but no questioning party has ever asked to see the invoices for services rendered.

Without getting too deep into the weeds on the abortion issue since the pro-choice crowd engages in all sorts of verbal gymnastics to avoid calling a fetus a baby even if that is the meaning of the word in Latin, and 4-D ultrasound imaging is called a "weapon," let's just say that the specious argument that the nation's leading service provider in killing children in the womb is only reimbursed for the cheap services makes many a person wonder about their accounting.

On a balance sheet, it may be true that PP only charges the government for "well-woman" services, but truthfully, since PP is a "non-profit" with a healthy net revenue over net expenses bottom line, all that extra revenue is coming from somewhere. Not that this is really unusual.  All non-profits are expected to raise more money this year than last.  They could be providing services at no cost.  (As it is, since abortion is their money maker, it's likely that the price is jacked up to cover the other services, and that the government is charged an "at cost" price or less. Without seeing line item details, it's impossible to know.)

That does not make the shock of a Catholic supporting the legacy of one of the most hateful eugenicists to ever live any less.  Just confounding.  As much as many of us believe that women need access to disease diagnostics and that indigent care should be available at the hospital level and through medical schools, buying the line that PP is about anything other than helping Americans of all stripes self-eugenicize really makes one want to shake the supporter.
